The World

Cinder Wastes

Where the Warden's fire came from. Burning wastes north of Emberfall, the Forge of Ruin and the Obsidian Spire.

At a glance

Hearthguard

A walled outpost of soldiers and smiths. Hearthguard has a waystone, a Bounty Board, a Bank Chest, a Furnace and an Anvil, and two merchants:

  • Vulkar, the Emberwright: magic emberforged weapons and armour. "Forged in the same fire as the Warden. Cooler tempered."
  • Ashka, the quartermaster: potions, Identify and Ashgate Scrolls, and mithril armour. "Hearthguard holds because I count the arrows."

Monsters

Skilling

  • Mining: the richest coal in the land, plus iron.
  • Woodcutting: maple.

Lairs

The Forge of Ruin

The Forge of Ruin (level 38). The forge that made the Warden still burns, and The Forgemaster still works it.

The Obsidian Spire

The Obsidian Spire (level 44). The Cinder Lord waits at the top. He has time. The Cinder Lord is the last step before the endgame.

Both Cinder bosses keep a rune of their own and can drop the Magma Pup, and in Nightmare they drop the Sigil of Cinders.

World boss

When a bellow rolls across the Wastes, Ashhorn the Unbroken has woken in the lava fields. Everyone in your world is warned a few minutes ahead and anyone can join in. It's built for a group, so bring friends. See World Bosses.

Tips

  • The Wastes are full of ranged monsters. Cinder Wraiths and Ember Watchers can pick you apart while a Minotaur holds you in place. Take out the shooters first.
  • Hearthguard's Furnace and Anvil sit right next to the coal. It's a smith's paradise.
  • Emberforged gear starts dropping here, and wearing some is one of your objectives.
  • Once you've beaten the Cinder Lord, you're ready for Nightmare.
