Defence
Defence trains when you take hits, and lets you wear heavier armour.
What Defence does
Defence decides which armour you can wear. Heavier helms, body armour, gauntlets, boots and shields all need a Defence level, and heavier armour means more armour. See
Defence for every unlock by level.
Defence also counts toward your combat level.
How to train it
Defence trains itself: every time a monster hurts you, you earn Defence XP in proportion to the damage you took. You don't need to do anything special. Just fight things that can hit back.
Training tips
- Fight things that fight back. Trivial monsters barely scratch you, so they give almost no Defence XP. Even and slightly Dangerous fights train it much faster.
- Melee trains it fastest, simply because you're standing in reach of everything.
- XP comes from damage actually taken. Good armour means each hit gives a little less Defence XP, but you stay out longer and fight tougher things, so it evens out. Don't take your armour off to train faster.
Armour tiers
Armour comes in tiers, from leather (which anyone can wear) through iron, steel, mithril and emberforged to obsidian and dragonscale, each needing more Defence than the last. Rings and amulets have no requirement at all.
