Price Check & the Grand Market
Find out what any item is worth, then buy and sell with other players on the Grand Market.
What's it worth?
Every item in Ashenvale has a real value: whatever another player will pay for it. Price Check tells you what that is.
Open your bag, tap any identified item and choose Price check. (Unidentified gear can't be price-checked: identify it first.) You'll see:
- A price band, like "worth about 12K–18K", from recent sales of similar items.
- The last few sales of items like yours, with their prices.
- The cheapest similar listing on the market right now, so you know what you're competing with.
What counts as "similar"?
Price Check looks for items that match yours closely: the same base and rarity, with the same properties, rolled at a similar quality (low, middle or top of their ranges). A sword with top-rolled damage is compared with other top-rolled swords, not with the bottom of the barrel.
If nothing that close has sold yet, it widens the search to items with the same slot, rarity and properties, whatever their rolls, and marks the result as a looser match. If nothing similar has ever sold, it gives an estimate based on the item's rarity, level and roll quality.
- Uniques are compared with other copies of the same unique.
- Empowered and corrupted items are told apart from plain ones, so a +5 or an Exalted item isn't priced like a fresh drop.
Materials
Price Check on ore, bars, logs, fish, gems, bones, orbs and other materials shows the live buy and sell prices on the market and the most recent trades.
The Grand Market
The Grand Market is where players trade. Its board stands in the Emberfall town square, and you can open it from anywhere with the Market button (or M on a computer). It only works while you're playing online.
It has three tabs:
- Gear: every piece of equipment players have listed. Tap one to see its full properties and buy it.
- Resources: materials, bought and sold at the going rate.
- My Trades (Trades on a phone): your own listings and orders.
Selling gear
- In your bag, tap the item and choose Sell on market.
- Set your price. Price Check first so you know what's fair.
- The item leaves your bag and goes on the market.
Identify gear before you list it, and unlock it if it's locked. When someone buys it, the gold is paid to you automatically, minus a market tax of 2%. Listings last 48 hours: if yours expires unsold, take it back from the My Trades tab. You can have up to 8 listings at once.
Selling and buying gold
Gold itself trades as a Gold Pouch. Tie some of your gold into a pouch (see The Bank), then list the pouch like any item. In the Gear tab, pick Gold Pouch as the base (or search for "gold") to see the pouches for sale. Each listing shows how much gold it holds and the price per coin. Buy one and open it to add its gold to your purse.
Buying gear
Browse the Gear tab, tap a listing to see its properties and roll ranges, and buy it. It goes straight into your bag, so leave a free slot.
Trading materials
Materials trade through an order book. On the Resources tab, Buy now takes the cheapest offers on sale, and Sell now fills the best standing offers to buy. Place order lets you name your own price instead: a buy order holds your gold, and a sell order holds your materials, until someone fills it or you cancel it. Your open orders show on the My Trades tab.
You can carry at most 999 of each material, so a Buy fills only up to that and a buy order can't ask for more than you have room for (counting your other open orders). If a buy order fills, or you cancel a sell order, while you're already at the limit, the rest goes to your bank.
Merchants never sell ore, bars, logs, fish or gems. Every one of those comes from a player, so their price is set by players alone.
The rules
- No items or gold are ever sold for real money. The market is players trading with players, and that's the only way to buy what someone else found.
- You can't use the market while you're inside the Wilderness.
Merchants
Every town has merchants who sell supplies and magic gear for gold, and who'll buy your unwanted gear.
- Selling to a merchant: near any merchant, right-click an item in your bag (or hold it on a phone) and choose Sell to merchant. You'll see the price before you sell. Merchants pay a small amount, more for better rarities, and less for unidentified items.
- Many at once: the bag's Sell… menu sells every Normal item, everything up to magic or rare, or all your non-upgrades in one go, with the count and total shown first. Auto-sell can even sell plain drops as you pick them up. See Loot for the details.
- Locked items can't be sold, discarded or listed here until you unlock them.
- Buying: tap a merchant to see what they sell. Health potions and Identify Scrolls are sold in every town, and each town's gear merchant sells magic weapons and armour for its region. See Upgrading Your Gear.
